Components for social media

Use social media components to embed and preview your department’s existing social media feeds on a page.

Each social media feed requires an activated license key. Contact Andy Blacker at the College of FAA to set up your site’s license keys.

Each social media account must first be connected on your site’s settings page. 

Facebook

To connect a Facebook page to your site:

  • Go to the Facebook settings page and click the Connect a Facebook account button.
  • A redirect to a Facebook page will ask you to confirm the permissions settings. Keep all of them set to yes.
  • Choose the Facebook page(s) you want to connect. You can only connect Facebook pages using accounts that have admin or editor roles. You can connect multiple Facebook pages.
  • Continue through the prompts until you return to your site’s Facebook settings page.
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page to save these settings.

Extra settings:

  • Under the settings (Facebook Feed > Customize > Misc) check the box labeled “Enqueue CSS/JS with the shortcode. (This helps keep the website performant).

Once you’ve added a Facebook component to your page, enter:

  • A brief text heading.
  • The Facebook ID (username) of the page you want to connect. Example: FAAatIllinois
  • The number of Facebook posts (between 2 and 10) you want to show in the component.

Instagram

To connect Instagram accounts to your site:

  • Go to the Instagram settings page and click the Connect an Instagram account button.
  • A redirect to an Instagram page will ask you to confirm the permissions settings. Keep all of them set to yes.
  • Choose the Instagram account(s) you want to connect. 
  • Continue through the prompts until you return to your site’s Instagram settings page.
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page to save these settings.

Extra settings:

  • Under the settings (Instagram Feed > Customize > Advanced) check the box labeled “Enqueue CSS with the shortcode. (This helps keep the website performant).

Professional/Business accounts work best

  • It’s best to convert any official department/school Instagram accounts to Professional/Business accounts
  • Connections to personal (i.e. not Business) Instagram accounts must be manually renewed every 30 days. 

Once you’ve added an Instagram component to your page, enter:

  • A brief text heading.
  • The Instagram username of the account you want to connect. Example: FAAatIllinois
  • The number of Instagram posts (between 2 and 10) you want to show in the component.

Twitter

To connect Twitter accounts to your site:

  • Go to the Twitter settings page and click Log in to Twitter and get me access token and secret.
  • A redirect to a Twitter page will ask you to confirm the permissions settings. Keep all of them set to yes.
  • Choose the Twitter account(s) you want to connect. You can connect any public (e.g. not private) Twitter account.
  • Continue through the prompts until you return to your site’s Twitter settings page.
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page to save these settings.

Once you’ve added a Twitter component to your page, enter:

  • A brief text heading.
  • The Twitter username of the account you want to connect. Example: FAAatIllinois
  • The number of tweets (between 2 and 10) you want to show in the component.
